Every Child Deserves a Safe, Happy, Healthy Environment

Critical Help for Children in Need

The AIDS epidemic, wars, disease, and starvation in Africa have left millions of children without parents. UNICEF estimates that there are more than 52 million orphans in Africa. Some are able to live with relatives, but countless others are left entirely on their own.

The International Children’s Fund (ICF) was created more than 40 years ago to help desperately poor children. Our goal has always been to provide food and shelter so children can survive, then education and training so they can prosper. One of our most important humanitarian programs is the construction and operation of orphanages. Today, ICF supports 8 orphanages in Africa and India.

Creating Environments Where Orphaned Children Thrive

ICF provides safe, healthy environments where orphans can grow, learn, and thrive. One partner, Pastor Ralph Gelego, fled Liberia’s civil war as a youth. After returning, he founded My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) in 1997 with ICF’s support.

From a small orphanage, MBK has grown into a 10-acre complex with an orphanage, primary and secondary schools, a vocational school, and a library. MBK now houses more than 65 orphans and supports many more with food, education, and care.

Children at orphanage

The Kingdom Care orphanage serves a community of 100,000 people, of which an estimated 40,000 are orphans.

Positive Community Impact

Pastor Geoffrey, once an orphan himself in Togo, founded Kingdom Care Orphanage in 2006. Starting with mud huts that floods destroyed, he persisted—building stronger facilities and farming projects.

Since partnering with ICF in 2019, we have helped build a fishpond and drill a water well. These projects are transforming lives. In 2019, MBK celebrated its first high school graduation.

Kingdom Care Orphanage facilities

Although facilities remain rudimentary, Kingdom Care provides food, shelter, and limited education for over 150 orphans. The need is enormous, but so is the hope.
