Sustainable Food Supplies

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”

The International Children’s Fund strives to make a sustainable difference in the lives of children and their families in need.  One way that we do this is to support initiatives that provide sustainable food supplies.  These initiatives are uniquely tailored to the specific needs and environment of each of our missions.  They include a broad array of farming, animal husbandry, and aquaculture programs.

My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage in Liberia has implemented extensive farming and animal husbandry programs.  From tilling the field (by hand), to planting, to feeding the pigs – its hard work and everyone has a role to play.  Pastor Gelego recognizes the importance becoming more self-sufficient and also the benefit of teaching those in his care, a good work ethic and valuable skills that will help them throughout their lives.

In rural areas of Uganda, Pastor Peterson has implemented numerous sustainable food supply programs and most recently has been delivering goats to desperately poor families.

Namusoko Hilda is one of the hundreds of beneficiaries of this program.  For several years, she and her 5 children have been dependent on ICF for food – to avoid starvation.  A widow herself, she does not have sufficient land to grow enough food to feed her children.  But thanks to your generous support, Pastor Peterson was able to provide her, and many others like her, with a goat.  Namusoko, and the others hope that the goats will eventually reproduce and will allow them to provide their families with the food, clothing, and medicines that they so desperately need.  This is a huge step toward becoming self-sufficient.

Girl’s College Update

The construction of the Girl’s college in Monrovia Liberia is progressing according to schedule. Pastor Gyamfi, who is managing this project, shared the following update:

“It has been a journey of hope, faith, and grace. Finally, phase two of the Liberia Girl’s College was completed on August 19, 2022. We would like to thank God almighty and the International Children Funds (ICF), for their continuous support. The project team, donors, and everyone that is working so hard to make this dream a reality … thank you.”

Together We Make A World of Difference

Regular giving helps us support our efforts to increase agricultural projects and countless other programs promoting sustainable improvements in the lives of desperately poor children and their families. We call these donors Hope Ambassadors because they help ICF to provide hope to those who truly face life and death needs in Africa and India.

Every gift, no matter how large or small, is an answer to our prayers and an investment in the life of a child. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your continued prayers and financial support.

Thank you and God Bless, Dr. David Bruenning Founder/Int’l Director
