Global Sustainability

Thank you for your generous support to the International children’s fund over the years. Together we are making an incredible difference in the lives of desperately poor children and their families in Africa and India.

As you know, the International Children’s Fund strives to make a sustainable difference in the lives of desperately poor children and their families. One way that we do this is to support initiatives that provide sustainable food supplies. These initiatives are uniquely tailored to the specific needs and environment of each of our missions. They include a broad array of farming, animal husbandry, and aquaculture programs.

Pastor Peter Sila at our Open Gate of Hope mission in Kenya has embraced both farming and animal husbandry to support their feeding programs. On their farm, they grow corn, beans, bananas, spinach, and pawpaw, among other crops. Their animal husbandry program includes both dairy and poultry. Some recent photos follow:

These initiatives supply most of the food needed to provide more than 100,000 meals per year to children at their orphanages and schools in Kibera, Nairobi, and Chumvi. Whenever there is a surplus of food production, it is used to support feeding programs within the communities or is sold to defray other costs of operating the mission.

Although the Open Gate of Hope mission is making an incredible impact, the need is great and their resources are limited. They would like to expand their farming and animal husbandry programs to assist even more desperately poor children and their families. With your continued support, we will be able to fund this expansion while we continue to support the sustainable food production programs at our other missions.

Update on Girls College

We are pleased to report that work on the Girls College in Monrovia is progressing ahead of plan. The land has been prepared and the foundation is being constructed (as shown in the picture below). You can visit our website for regular project updates on this exciting project which will change the lives of tens of thousands of young women in Liberia.
