Healing with Hope: How ICF is Saving Lives Through Compassionate Healthcare
Every day, millions of children around the world face the harsh realities of illness and limited access to basic medical care – something many developed countries take for granted. But thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, the International Children’s Fund (ICF) brings healing, hope, and life-saving support to some of the most vulnerable communities across the globe in regions like Africa and countries such as India and Pakistan.
The World Health Organization estimates that 2.9 million children under the age of 5 die each year in sub-Saharan Africa—that’s five children every minute. Tragically, most of these deaths are from preventable causes like pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria.
At ICF, we believe no child should die simply because they lack access to basic medical treatment. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to bring life-saving care and supplies to communities in need.
ICF’s Life-Saving Medical Programs
With your support, ICF has been able to expand and sustain critical medical programs across the regions we serve. In 2024 alone, your generous contributions helped us deliver care through these impactful initiatives:
- Medical Clinics: We operate a large medical clinic in Liberia, offering a wide range of services to thousands of patients each year—at little or no cost.
- Pharmaceuticals: We distributed over 3.8 million doses of medicine in 2024 to clinics and hospitals throughout Liberia. These medications treat a range of illnesses from diarrhea and malaria to AIDS—saving countless lives.
- Mosquito Nets: Tens of thousands of treated mosquito nets were provided to children and families, offering protection against malaria, which is unfortunately a leading cause of death in many of the areas we serve.
- Eyeglasses: Through our missions, children and adults receive corrective eyeglasses, giving them the ability to learn, work, and fully participate in daily life.
- Deworming: Parasitic worms rob children of nutrition, energy, and health. Our missions distribute deworming medicine to help children regain their strength and enjoy their childhood once again.
- Jigger Eradication: We also offer treatment for jiggers (Chigoe fleas)—a debilitating condition that causes painful lesions and infection if untreated. Our mission partners provide relief, healing, and dignity to those affected.
A Real Story of Impact
In 2024, the opening of our clinic in Togo proved to be life-changing. According to Pastor Geoffrey, the response from the community was overwhelming. He and his team went door to door to share the news. Children with illnesses that once went untreated finally received the care they needed.
Two of those children, Kokou (age 5) and Fubert (age 4), arrived at the clinic suffering from malaria and a severe stomach infection. Both were treated and made full recoveries. Without the clinic—and your support—their stories could have ended in tragedy. Instead, they are now healthy and thriving.
