African Mothers Give Selflessly
In rural Africa, the care that a mother provides to her children is often at the expense of her own. When there is not enough food, the children eat, and mothers often go hungry. When there is a shortage of medication, mothers will go without. From before sunrise until after sunset, their days are filled with hard work to care for their families.
Betty Nanteza, from Mawuta village in Uganda, spends her time fetching water, growing vegetables, cooking, cleaning, and caring for her 6 children and 3 grandchildren. When asked what she would want for Mother’s Day, Betty did not ask for candy or gifts — she asked for a bag of rice or corn to feed her children.
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

The Best Mother’s Day Gifts Cannot be Wrapped
Pastor Peterson Kasharu regularly visits remote villages in Uganda. During a recent visit, he met an elderly woman caring for her 13 grandchildren after their parents had passed away. The family had run out of food and had not eaten in several days.
The grandmother said: “I was laying helpless in the kitchen … praying for some food for my grandchildren and waiting for an answer from God.” Her prayers were answered when Pastor Peterson arrived bringing rice, corn flour, and cooking oil.
